In a world where technology
has such an influence, citizens must be familiarized with its use and the
useful products we can get from it. We are surrounded by technology that has
been developed for making our life simple and satisfy our needs. This is one of
the reasons why people must develop skills in order to make a good use of that
technology and take advantage from it. To say more, we are immersed in an evident revolution: we use information
and technological devices that a few years ago were unthinkable. The way we
live and work has changed drastically. We need a whole new set of skills to
develop and integrate into adult life, in a hyper-connected society in a
constant and increasing change. The students must be prepared to adapt to this
new society.
Technology could be
understood according to different aspects:
- Process
for solving technological problems.
- Technological
expression and communication.
- Materials
of technical use.
- Structures
and mechanisms: machines and systems.
Teaching "basic
competences" is an imperative part of the curriculum. Developing digital
competence within the educational system requires a correct integration of ICT
in the classroom and teacher training in this competence. Currently, the use that
people make of information is huge. Students have to be prepared for the
revolution of technology that is being experienced in this era. Digital
competence is important to be developed. ICT use in education is a must, and
has to be incorporated in the classrooms.
The subject of Information
Technology and Communication (ICT) prepares students to function in an adaptive
framework; beyond a simple digital literacy focused on the management of tools
that will become obsolete in a short period of time, it is necessary to provide
the knowledge, skills and aptitudes to facilitate a permanent learning
throughout the whole life, so that students can adapt to the demands arising in
the field of ICT. On the other hand, students must be able to integrate and
link these learnings with other subjects. So, ICT prepares students to develop themselves in this
area. They need to learn how to use different tools that will be useful not in
a short period of time, but also for their future. Moreover, they should know
their legal use, and all the advantages or disadvantages that new technology
could suppose.
In 4th ESO,
students must be provided with skills in order to get adapted to different changes
that ICT can present so that they could make a good use of it, and continue
using them in a future. Students require fluency with information technologies to be fully
developed in a technological society in order to continue his/her studies or to
incorporate into the work force (page 531).
In Bachillerato, ICT must be
incorporated by means of a series of technological aspects they will have to
use in a future in their professional career, or graduated or post-graduate
studies.
